Coptic Salt (For Diabetes?!)
Coptic salt is made from a plant known as Chinese Goldthread. According to the World Health Organization, it can be used in folk medicine to cure various diseases and conditions such as diabetes, malaria, arthritis and gout. A study carried on a tablet known as JiQi-jiangTang which has Coptis chinensis was illustrated to minimize insulin resistance and boost beta cell function.
The alliance for advanced health came up with what they claim to be the cure for diabetes: Coptic salt. They also say that Coptic salt can be used to treat other conditions such as gastroenteritis, boils on the skin, bacterial diarrhea and visceral leishmaniasis. In as much as the World Health Organization believes in them, there is no clinical evidence to support these claims. The miraculous claims do not have enough supporting data. One is left to wonder if it is really a cure for diabetes or just a treatment that reduces effects of diabetes.
National Diabetes Statistics report says that 10% of the US population is diabetic. Their report goes further to state that diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in America. 7.2 million People in the world may not be aware that they are diabetic. In the US alone, 132,000 teenagers and children have been found to be diabetic. According to the American Diabetes Association reports, the financial cost of diabetes in the country is about $ 13, 700 per year. Think about it, If Coptic salt was really the cure for diabetes, would these numbers be this high? In my opinion, there is still a lot to be done to find a complete cure of diabetes.
What is diabetes?
This condition refers to an unbalanced metabolism of carbohydrates where the body does not produce enough insulin causing blood sugar levels to go beyond normal. The history of diabetes dates back in 1500 BCE where Indian physicians noted excessive urination among some people and not knowing what it was, gave it the name honey urine. Type 1 diabetes was the first form of diabetes to kick in.
What are the normal blood sugar levels as opposed to abnormal levels?
In understanding what diabetes entails, you need to know what normal blood sugar levels are and what blood sugar levels are abnormal so that you know if you are safe or not.
For someone with no diabetes, their blood sugar level in the morning should be 100mg/dl. With intake of meals, normal blood sugar is 70-99mg/dl and few hours after meal, blood sugar levels should not exceed 140 mg/dl.
Abnormal levels are anything above 140 mg/dl before meals and above 180 mg/dl few hours after meals. If your blood sugars go lower than the numbers mentioned above, you should be careful about your diet. Low blood sugars causes dizziness, fainting, and trembling, sweating and increased appetite.
How can you test blood glucose levels?
In testing, you need a blood glucose meter, a test strip and lancing device. The following guideline will help you determine the levels of your blood sugar
- Preparation- Ensure that you have all instruments ready for testing. Apart from the instruments mentioned above, get a cotton wool to absorb the blood after pricking. You can also get a monitoring diary to record your findings
- Loading- Load your finger pricking device with a new lancet.
- Hygiene- Ensure that your hands are clean and dry before you start testing so that any germs do not contaminate the results. For instance, your hands may contain some sugars that you may have picked from external sources.
- Mounting- Place your test strip into your meter
- Pricking- According to the World Health Organization blood sugar levels testing should be done on the middle or ring finger. You should avoid pricking the little finger since the skin is thin. Prick your middle finger from the sides due to less nerve endings around these areas as compared to the tip of your finger. If your blood does not flow easily, squeeze you finger until blood comes out.
- Transferring- check that your meter is in place and transfer that blood on the strip and give it ten seconds to detect. After this, jot down the results in your monitoring diary until the next time you take the test
- Disposing- Get rid of the test strip by putting the lancet into a sharps bin so as to prevent it from harming anyone.
Good luck in testing. If the results however show abnormal blood sugar levels, here is what you need to know regarding this condition. Follow the guidelines at the end and avoid worse complications in future.
Stages of Diabetes
Diabetes gradually develops in different stages depending on the levels of your blood sugar. These stages include:
This refers to a stage where the blood sugars are higher than normal but not too high for one to be declared diabetic.
Full blown diabetes mellitus
When high blood sugar levels are prolonged for a long time, it causes this metabolic disorder. This condition should be looked into immediately so as to prevent complications such as diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state. The condition is controlled through insulin injections.
Forms of diabetes
There are different forms of diabetes depending on people’s age. Some people develop diabetes when they are barely 18 while others get it in their 50s. Unfortunately, some even go for years without realizing that they have it and by the time they find out, it might have advanced to a worse stage. Either way, it is never great news to be declared diabetic. Some of the forms are discussed as follows:
Type 1 Diabetes
This type is known as the juvenile diabetes since it develops when one is young. Here, the body produces no insulin to regulate body sugar levels. The immune system of the body gets rid of the cells needed to produce insulin.
Why does the immune system work against you? This could be caused by a virus, heavy metals, vaccines or high consumption of foods such as wheat and Milk. Grains like wheat and cow milk are rich in protein gluten and A11 casein which in turn causes leaky gut making your immune system to destroy cells, a condition referred to as autoimmune disease. You may also experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and kussmaul breathing (deep breaths). All the above symptoms are characteristics of a metabolic disturbance know ass diabetic ketoacidosis.
When your blood sugar levels go up, they start damaging body organs. This condition is managed by injecting insulin directly into your blood. You can also wear an insulin pump that drops insulin all through the day. There are different kinds of insulin pumps that you can go for such as cellnovo, animasvibe, Medtronic and minimized 640G.
The real cause of type 1 diabetes still remains a mystery. However, there are some triggers that are involved in causing type 1 diabetes. These may include:
- Viral and bacterial infections that come due to lack of proper hygiene.
- Chemical toxins contained in different kinds of food
- Unknown components causing autoimmune reactions.
- Genetic disposition
Type 2 diabetes
If you are 40 and above, watch out for this type of diabetes by first having full control of your weight. 90% of the people with diabetes suffer from type 2 diabetes. This type is caused by high blood sugar levels. It is commonly referred to as a non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. In this level, the body produces insufficient insulin which is not enough to regulate sugar levels in the body.
In some instances, the body cells may fail to react to insulin. Obese patients are advised to go for measures to maintain blood pressure such as reducing the amount of salt that they consume. Type 2 diabetes affects all your body systems including your sleep and your vision. It can however be controlled with medication. Injecting insulin can also be used but it is not a necessity since medicines work fine by themselves. If you are obese and suffering from type 2 diabetes, it is advisable that you consider a weight loss surgery.
What brings about type 2 diabetes?
- Poor dieting
- High inflammation levels
- Genetic history of diabetes
- High blood pressure of heart disease
- Exposure to harmful chemicals
What signs do you need to watch out for?
- Increased urination (polyuria)
- Unquenchable thirst (polydipsia)
- Constant Hunger (polyphagia)
If such symptoms are not addressed early, serious complications may follow such as:
- eye damage
- kidney failure
- heart diseases
- feet ulcers leading to amputation
- Nerve damage
Some conditions such as migraines, itchy skin and slow healing of cuts may not be specific to diabetes but can be experienced with type 2 diabetes.
Among some complications that some expectant women may face include this form of diabetes. If you have a history of diabetes, watch out on your blood sugar levels when expecting since they may go up due to emotional distress after your baby is born.
Some of the risk factors that increase the chances of getting gestational diabetes include:
- If your family has had this condition in the past, this might be passed down to you.
- Obesity or being overweight
- Cases of polycystic ovary syndrome
- The size of your baby. A baby that weighs more than 9Ib may make blood sugar levels of the mother to rise above normal.
What causes diabetes fatigue?
When your blood glucose is high, blood circulation is slowed preventing cells from obtaining enough oxygen and nutrients. This is what makes you feel drugged in the morning if you are suffering from high glucose levels. When the blood glucose is high, you blood vessels get inflamed by sugar leading to monocytes immune cells to get to the brain causing you fatigue. Low sugar levels also makes you feel tired because of insufficient fuel for the cell to operate effectively.
Are there other factors that cause diabetes?
People claim that causes of some forms of diabetes remain unknown since there are so many factors that may cause diabetes. Other factors include:
- Pancreatitis or pancreatectomy
- The Crushing syndrome. This increases blood sugar levels due to increased production of the cortisol hormone.
- The levels of making insulin and glucagon levels are not balanced.
- Steroid diabetes. Prolonged glucocorticoid therapy can cause diabetes
- Polycystic Ovary syndrome prevents insulin from being produced.
What is the connection between diabetes and high blood pressure?
If you have diabetes, the chances of getting high blood pressure are high. If diabetes kicks in, your blood pressure will raise at 130/80 mmmHg. Diabetes and high blood pressure are like twins so watch out because lack of changing your diet when diabetic may lead to high blood pressure.
Naturally curing diabetes
Though many people assume that this condition has no permanent cure, it can be naturally reversed.
How do you reverse diabetes?
Watch what you eat
The American Diabetes Association says that diet is the main cause of diabetes. It recommends that you follow dietary pattern by reducing the amount of sodium that you consume and increasing potassium intake.
It is rare for type 1 diabetes to be reversed but this does not mean that you will die. Just watch what you consume to improve your blood sugar levels and avoid depending on medicines and insulin. Some foods affect the levels of your blood sugar and cause inflammation making your immune system destroy cells needed to produce insulin.
Get rid of these foods:
Even though sweets, chocolates, sodas and cakes are very tempting, we should try as much as possible to avoid temptation to consume them. The more we consume less sugar, the healthier we become. Refined sugar found in such products go straight to the bloodstream making our blood glucose to go high. Many people go for honey as an alternative but this too affects blood sugar levels. Instead of honey, you can use a natural sweetener like stevia that does not affect your blood glucose.
Most of us struggle to pass through a bakery without being tempted to buy some sweet cakes or cookies. Did you know that delicious cake could make your intestines inflame? Well, that is how ugly things can get. Wheat grains contain gluten that have carbohydrates which are easily broken down to sugar after you have had your delicious coffee cookies. Reverse diabetes by avoiding such grains and let your body adjust within 90 days as you start your healing program.
Apart from causing liver cirrhosis, taking one for the road increases your blood sugar levels. This is because, alcohol contains carbohydrates which are easily converted to sugar when consumed in large quantity. In their findings, annals of internal medicine found that heavy consumption of alcohol increases diabetes by 43%. So before you conclude that diabetes has no cure, start by reducing your drinking levels and see the transformation in your blood sugar levels.
Add the following foods to your diet
If you are type 2 diabetic, reverse this condition by incorporating the following foods:
Modernization has made us abandon some traditional foods which have benefits to our health. Foods such as pumpkins have become rare in our modern society. Reverse diabetes by going back in time when pumpkin seeds, black beans and spinach leaves were treasured. These foods are rich in magnesium which help in regulating blood sugar levels to improve your metabolism.
Foods rich in fiber
Eating vegetables such as peas, artichokes and Brussels help in slowing down absorption of glucose. You can also get fiber from avocados, nuts, chia seeds and berries. Wondering how to kick off diabetes? Start by eating at least 30 grams of some of these foods rich in fiber and help regulate your blood sugar levels.
In our generation, most of us cannot go for a week without consuming meat. Have you heard of the phrase “you are what you eat ‘’ and failed to relate? Well, know that consuming protein such as broiler chicken meat on a daily basis will not only make you big but also increase chances of getting diabetes. For those who are already here, start consuming clean protein and reverse your condition. For instance, go for fish instead of broilers. Fish has omega 3 that minimizes inflammation.
How do you balance blood sugar?
A natural way to balance blood sugar is through exercise. Working out may seem too difficult especially when you are overweight but be assured that you will not only fight diabetes but also other chronic diseases. This not only boosts your blood glucose control but also helps fight diabetes. Fight off that weight and take charge of your blood sugar by going for a run every day.
Increase you insulin sensitivity by engaging in burst training. Through this, you burn fat and build lean muscles. You can also improve your sugar metabolism through lifting free weights at the gym. Exercise requires lots of discipline and inner motivation. Make it part of your daily routine and reverse diabetes.
In as much as some people claim that Coptic salt will completely cure you from diabetes, combining natural exercise and good diet will help you reverse this condition. You need to get out of the mentality that scientists and medical experts alone will cure your condition. Treating diabetes starts with you. Play your part accordingly and enjoy a healthy life.
